DeMolay Sweetheart Dance, Official Visits of Bethels #38 and #107 and #86, #99, and #110, and Night at the Museum

From my calculations, I owe you a few blog entries, so I suppose I will start now before I'm three entries behind.

On February 12, I was lucky to attend the Demolay Sweetheart Dance. It was so much fun, and I was amazed at the number of people that attended. I was excited because more girls from my Bethel attended than ever before. It was really fun to see all of the other girls for the first time since All Day School of Instructions. I danced with everyone and was really impressed with some of the dancers, especially James Gordon, who's the current State Master Councilor. I had no idea that he could dance like that. I shared a slow dance with Lynn and talked and danced with everyone. The lemonade was really tasty, but the trip to McDonald's before the dance was even more hilarious because we were all in our semi-formals.

Then, on February 19, I attended a number of events, the first of which was the Official Visit of Bethels #38 and #107. I had a great time, and I was so happy to assist in the initiation of a new member, pro-temming Chaplain and doing the Inner Guard's part when necessary. Almost all of the stations were filled, and I was happy to present the new member with her gift from the Promotion Committee. I was also happy to see my friend, Jamie, presiding in the East. We were originally Honored Queens together, and I also crowned her as Junior Miss Indiana Congeniality 08-09 so we have been good friends for several years. The girls did a wonderful job in the ceremony, and I'm sure that it was very special for the initiate.

From Bethel #38, Speedway, I sped to Bethel #99, Plainfield. I pro-temmed Third Messenger there, and it was an extremely short Official Visit with the candidates absent, but they informed us that they will be initiating them soon. I am looking forward to that. The Official Visit went well, and I was happy to see the sidelines filled. Three Honored Queens sat side by side in the East, and I was happy to see that. The food and fellowship directly after the meeting was fun, as always. The Daughters had made pizzas for us so I was a bit suspicious when one of them made the remark that "she wasn't going to eat it." Everyone was very excited because it was nearly time to leave for Night at the Museum.

Finally, after shifting luggage from one trunk to another, we were off to Louisville. I was really excited because it was my first trip to Kentucky. The drive was hilarious, but if I learned anything, I learned that Genesis and I can never sleep when we're together. The most hilarious part of the drive was when Vicki's pants were wet, and after trying all the other methods we could think of, we dried her pants by hanging them out the window, that is, until they started "knocking" against the window to let us know that they wanted back inside. We were pretty late so Genesis and I decided we'd stick together since neither of us knew where anything was. We watched the girls do their experiments to solve a mystery, mostly because we missed the instructions. Then, after a short snack, it was time to begin the scavenger hunt. Genesis and I went together with some of the little girls from Bethel #107, but we had some issues when we lost them in all the mayhem and could never hear exactly what we were supposed to be looking for. When we got lost, we started playing games. We learned one thing: Genesis drives much better drunk than she does when she's sober, at least according to a simulation. We almost missed the IMAX presentation, but I made it in just in time to get blinded and dizzy from the screen. I thought the film was interesting. It was all about how Boeing made its 787. After that, the scavenger hunt really began-for our luggage. That was much more difficult than the scavenger hunt for information. Finally, everyone found their things, and I laid down to sleep next to the girls from Kentucky. The morning was chaotic as everyone reloaded their things and went down to breakfast with bedheads and sleep in their eyes. Even though Genesis and I had a very late night, we still didn't manage to sleep at all on the ride home. Overall, it was a fun time and fabulous experience that I'm trying to duplicate here at the new Children's Museum at Terre Haute.

Well, tomorrow, I shall see many of you again. I can't wait, and I am looking forward to the rest of this term!

All Day School of Instructions

It has been some time since I last blogged, and for that, I apologize. It's been a while since I attended a state event since we haven't had any. I'll be back into the habit soon enough.

For the first state event of the new term, we had All Day School of Instructions. In the morning, we went over some of the events coming up in this term, including the Night at the Museum promotional event that I am so excited to attend. We also talked about Pageant and Ritual Contest, among other events, but those are two of the most important and also the two that I would probably encourage you to participate in the most. Grand Bethel Executive Committee presented a skit, and I cannot tell you which was the more amusing: Becca, who did a performance of Kesha in the middle of the skit, with blue lips I might add, or Raquel, who was the three friends from the East with two balloons taped to her shoulders. Maybe it was Holli though, who played a child for whom nothing was going right. It was absolutely hilarious. Then we broke into two separate groups: the adults and the Daughters with Grand Bethel Executive Committee. During this time, the girls were divided by station and learned the particular ins and outs of their ritualistic work. Rachel and I assisted by leading the group of Messengers, bouncing ideas off one another and talking about subjects like Grand Bethel and how to explain Job's Daughters. I think the girls really learned a thing or two. Finally, it was time for lunch, and it was very tasty. Then we gathered together once again to listen to a man who worked in the Cyber Crimes division of his police department. He was a very interesting speaker, and he taught us how to be safe on the Internet. Hope was definitely embarrassed when she was consistently admitting to making most of the mistakes on the Internet, especially on Facebook. It was a very good presentation, and he was quite funny. Finally, Genesis and I brought up the rear, explaining our philanthropic projects, which you can learn more about by reading the issue of the February edition of the Bethel News or checking out the flier on the Bulletins page.

I'm looking forward to Saturday's dance, and I promise that I will blog much sooner next time. I'm sorry for the delay, but better late than never! I hope to see everyone soon! Have a happy Valentine's Day full of Job's love!

Official Visit of Bethels #44 and #54 and DeMolay Installation

Well, once again, I must begin this post by apologizing for all the time that has elapsed between now and the actual event I attended.

On Saturday, November 20, I left for Crown Point. I had a good time there, and I was fortunate enough to be able to participate in the Ceremony of Initiation as Guide. I was so happy that I even managed to get the girl's honor bands on. That was the hardest part of being Guide. I still can't do my own honor band either. It was a good time, and I received a lot of presents and even a Justin Bieber folder. The Ceremony went well, and I was able to speak to the girls as well as the initiates before the meeting. The best part of the day was that I broke the tradition. If you're wondering what tradition, I mean that the last time I visited Bethel #44, Crown Point as Junior Miss Indiana Congeniality, I fell down the stairs. This term, I am happy to report that I have not fallen at all. The meal was tasty, though I ate it on the run as some of the other girls and I made our way to Valparaiso for a DeMolay Installation.

The DeMolay Installation was incredible. The adults did a wonderful job performing several ceremonies, which I had heard about, but rarely seen. I was probably most fascinated by the Ceremony that took place before the Installation even began. It was a tribute to our National Anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner." It was really impressive, and it shed some light on what precisely the song is about and why we sing it. I also was privileged to see the Ceremony of the Lights, which explains the seven cardinal virtues of a member of DeMolay, which are similar to the teachings of Job's Daughters, and the Flower Talk, which is a tribute to those that have raised us, and in which the members present their mother or sometimes father or grandparent with roses. They has roses left, and my "tiara girls" as they referred to Amanda G., Samantha B., Madison M., and I were given the remaining roses. The boys were great, and the newly installed Master Councilor was practically speechless, but his speech was from the heart, and that's what really matters. I also left with extra sandwiches. I left with flowers and food so in my opinion, it was a very good day.

Well, I hope everyone is preparing for a wonderful Installation, term, and holiday season. I hope to see you all soon, hopefully at some of the Installations and most definitely in the new term. Stay busy and warm.

Official Visit of Bethel #22, Arch Presentation, Shrine Youth Dance, Bethel #121's Go-to-Church Sunday, and Ruth Goss

I'd like to start this blog by apologizing for its tardiness. I have been trying to maintain my blog, but recently I changed classes, and this is what has prevented me from blogging.

Last Saturday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Official Visit of Bethel #22, Bloomington. Their ceremony was really cute with using the little cards to spell out "Job's Daughters" and use the letters to explain the principles of our Order, and as usual, the food was great. I must say that I was so happy to return. Their Bethel is really blossoming, considering we reinstituted them only three years ago. I was fortunate enough to be a part of that ceremony, and I am really proud of the growth they have undergone over the last few years.

After the Official Visit, Tiffany, Brettney N., my mom, and I went to the Arch presentation. I learned a new game called "Cows" on the way. Apparently, you look for cows and shout out "My cows!" Then, if you're losing, you look for graveyards, which kill one of the other person's cows. It was quite hilarious because even though I wasn't playing, I was still looking for cows and graveyards. I am sorry Bethels #53 and #37 for missing your Official Visit, but this was a very good promotional opportunity where I was to speak on behalf of Indiana Job's Daughters. This was the first time Indiana has ever done this ceremony, and since there was no part exclusively written for Job's Daughters, so Tiffany and I were able to really tailor the speech for this to Indiana Job's Daughters. Though the production had some technological difficulty, everyone was quite touched when the star of the show, Jessica, an actual patient from the Hospital, walked through the Arch. She was so cute. Despite the technological difficulties, everyone seemed to walk out with more knowledge about all the Masonic family organizations, and I received many compliments on my signing to "God Bless America" to conclude the program, which brought many people over to out promotional display after the ceremony. I sat in this tiny car, and I tried on this humongous crown from Daughters of the Nile. I thought the Miss Indiana crown was big, but I was wrong. We came home with around three prospective members, so I think it was a success.

After I had some dinner, it was time for the Shrine Youth Dance. I had a really great time, and I thought the turnout from all three youth organizations was pretty good. I don't know how long it has been since all of the youth leaders were together. I had a great time dancing, and it was just an overall good time. The music was really loud, but everyone seemed to be having fun. It was great to see such a good turnout from the other Bethels and hear about the second Official Visit of the day. I heard there was some craziness in the East, but I won't name any names. You all know who you are. Genesis made remarks for the first time at the second Official Visit, and I heard she did a pretty good job. Then, I was commended on my sign language again in front of the entire dance. Thank you, everyone who attended, and as I don't see Penny and Mandy often, I want to thank the two of you for teaching me "God Bless America" in sign language. I never thought I would get so much use out of it.

After a late night on Saturday, I went to Go-to-Church Sunday for Bethel #121. It was too small to form the cross, but instead we went to the front of the room and sang "Nearer My God to Thee" while we assumed the Attitude of Prayer. It was a really beautiful church. I found myself admiring the stained glass windows for quite a bit of time. I got some great breakfast at Hardee's and took advantage of the opportunity to promote Job's Daughters, so I was pretty happy to take part in this event.

Unfortunately, the same day I heard that Ruth Goss, Past Supreme Guardian from my Bethel, Bethel #2, died. She was a great lady, and we honored her by forming the cross at her viewing on Wednesday night. There, I saw some of the most important moments of her life, and there was a picture of her with my Bethel just a year ago. I want to think Bethels # 5 and #121 for helping us form the cross. The Honored Queen of my Bethel, Mallory Howard, carried Ruth Goss's Past Grand Guardian's pin into the cross. She was an incredible woman, and our Order will sorely miss her.

Tomorrow is the last Official Visit of the term, and I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcomes this term. Please let me know when your Installations are, and I will try to make it. Warm wishes for the upcoming holiday season!

Audra Piner

Wednesday night, I attended the funeral of a Past Supreme Guardian, Audra Piner. I didn't personally know her, but the sincere and genuine emotions at the funeral was a testament to her greatness. It was beautiful, and all around the room were scattered her many keepsakes and photographs. She had collected hundreds of pins from her years in this and other organizations, and one really interesting aspect was all of the gavels she had used. All of the bells that she had collected were distributed to the attenders of her funeral. The cross was large, and the Majority Members paid homage to Audra by joining the ceremony. It was beautiful, and I am truly sorry that our Order has lost such an amazing woman.

Region #5 and #2 Promotion Party and Initiation at Bethel #121

I've had a great couple of days, staying a little bit closer to home for Job's Daughter activities.

Last Saturday, I attended the Region #5 and #2 Promotion Party. It was, of course, Halloween-themed. Everyone wore a costume. I went as a geisha girl in an authentic kimono. I was happy I got to dress up since I am too old to go trick-or-treating now. The other costumes were cool too like Minnie Mouse and Lady Gaga. There was a lot of yummy food, and the door prizes were cute. We played some games, and Raquel, as Grand Bethel Treasurer, and I, as Miss Indiana Job's Daughter and a member of Grand Bethel, answered a few questions about Job's Daughters and discussed how to explain Job's Daughters to prospective members and their families. Best of all, I got some candy!!!

Last night, I traveled just down the road to Bethel #121, Knightsville to assist in the initiation of Harley. I did Chaplain, and members from Bethels #2 and #22 helped fill the stations to get Harley initiated. I know Bethel #121 appreciated the help. She had quite a few family members present to witness her initiation. There were cute Halloween cupcakes afterward, and I think they looked familiar, so I think they were left-overs from the Region #5 and #2 Promotion Party. They were still tasty, even the second time. Overall, I had a good time, and I was happy to bring in another member to our organization.

Well, girls, this term is almost at its close. It has been great to travel so much, and I hope to be able to attend several installations this winter. I have enjoyed seeing you this term, and I am excited for the next term to begin. Look for my article on the Ceremony of Installation in the upcoming Bethel News Issue.

Official Visit of Bethels #42 and #24 and Coronation Ball

This weekend was another very long weekend for Indiana Job's Daughters.

Early Saturday morning, my mother and I met Anita and began the seemingly endless journey to New Albany for the Official Visit of Bethels #42 and #24. It was worth it when I arrived to Tootsie pops on the tables and a few minutes until breakfast. Of course, breakfast was wonderful, and I began to meet both the Daughters and the candidates for that day. I also got to meet the Jobie-to-Bees who were initiated into the Bee program at Bethel #42. I really enjoyed that because it was the first time I had ever seen the Jobie-to-Bee ceremony, and it didn't hurt that the two girls were completely adorable. Then we started into the Initiation. We initiated three new members on Saturday, and I assisted by performing the initatory part for Third Messenger. Overall, I had a great time, and I really enjoyed myself.

Genesis, Anita, my mother, and I had some time to kill before Coronation Ball, but I didn't get to go to Kentucky because Anita was having enough trouble trying to find out where and which direction we were supposed to go. We stopped at McDonald's, and while Anita was talking on the phone, Genesis and I ran across the parking lot to get pictures with the Big Boy, which is a restaurant for those of you who don't know. It was pretty funny because Genesis and I were receiving some strange looks, not much unusual about that.

Finally, we were off to Coronation Ball. I loved the 60s theme. My dress was awesome if I do say so myself. Some of the adults even dressed up. It was so much fun, even though we didn't have as much participation from the other youth organizations. There were some Demolay and some Rainbow Girls there, and I think they had a good time. I spent half of the night changing sashes and tiaras. Maddy won Jr. Coronation Queen, and Amanda Gilbert won Coronation Queen, and I think I will take this opportunity to congratulate them. The mix of music, decorations, and of course, the food, were fun and "groovy." Now I think I finally have the dance for Cotton-Eyed Joe committed to memory. I will probably forget it by next dance though. Overall, I really enjoyed this year's Coronation Ball.

Official Visits of Bethels 108, 32 and 67 and Bethels 34 and 68 and Demolay Halloween Party

I had another very busy weekend.

It began with the Official Visit of Bethels 108, 32, and 67 at Fishers. I had a great time. They did the Majority Ceremony, and I took part in the Ceremony as Second Messenger. I couldn't believe the shoes those two girls were wearing though. I couldn't have walked in those for more than a split second if I had been wearing them on my feet. It was great to see every office but one filled with some officers in twos. I guess I wasn't as happy to see the Majority Ceremony again, though. The Daughters did a great job with their parts, but I wish I could be seeing a few more Initiations where we gain members instead of lose them. That's alright. I believe Anita said that we have or are ready to bring in about 38 new members total this term. I hope that we'll get up to 50 though. I would like to finally hit that 100 new member goal. Of course the food was great afterwards, even though I only ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because I don't like chili.

Then it was off to Sheridan for the Official Visit of Bethels 34 and 68. They also did Majority Ceremony. It was great to see them dedicate Jeanne Fletcher's (formerly known as Ward) daughter. She was so cute, and she loved the little toy Elecia gave her because it squeaked when she squeezed it. They also did a great job on the Majority Ceremony, and it was funny to see the sister duo, Carolyn and Brittany Winebar. The food was tasty afterward, as usual.

After that, Genesis, Anita, my mother, and I went to Steel City Demolay's Halloween party. Genesis and I didn't sleep in the car as we had planned, but thank heavens we didn't, because if we had, Anita would have been lost because she was talking so much that she didn't realize she had passed the Coslets, who we were supposed to be following. We arrived and were greeted by some familiar faces from up North, namely Maddy, Junior Miss Indiana Congeniality, and Sam, Demolay State Sweetheart. Genesis dressed as a cheerleader, and I dressed as a butterfly. I even had one of those light-up tiaras from Wal-mart. It was hilarious. We danced the night away, convincing the boys to sway to the slow songs with us in a big circle by telling them
that they could tell their friends they had slow danced with six pretty girls all at once. The cake was amazing, even though I was perfectly content to just eat all of the candy provided. It was a really great time, and at the end of the night, Maddy, Genesis, and I convinced Anita and Susan that we needed some Miss time so we should stay at Maddy's house together.

I was up for about 22 hours that day, once you factor in the time difference, but it was worth it. I had a great time. I hope next weekend's Coronation Ball is just as fun.

A Very Busy Weekend

Well, it's been an incredibly busy weekend for me, especially since it was my fall break!!!

Friday, my Bethel Guardian invited me to the District 8 Meeting for Eastern Star. The food was great, of course. I was happy to see some familiar faces and see some very dedicated ones there as well with three 50+ year members in the meeting. The most hilarious part of the meeting was when Past Worthy Grand Patron Hugaholic Howard stood up and said that everyone should get to know me because I am going to be president one day. I hope I have everyone's vote!!! Overall, I had a great time, and I was happy to have the opportunity to form even more of a bond with our other Masonic family organizations.

Saturday was Grand Bethel Leadership Conference. The survivor theme worked out well, and I had a great time while I was with the older girls working with Grand Bethel Senior Princess, Brittany Winebar, talking about self-esteem and healthy forms of expression. The adults worked on their adult proficiency, and I don't know exactly what the younger girls did, but they all told me it was fun. Lunch was yummy, and while we were eating, Raquel gave a short presentation on healthy diets. I can't really say I follow any of her tips, but they're good to know anyway. That afternoon, we worked off lunch by taking a class in self-defense. It was so much fun. Genesis and I were having our own version of a WWE smackdown!!! She couldn't pry me off her hand using the circle technique the trainer taught us, so I was catching her so she wouldn't fall on the floor. It was absolutely hilarious. I hope more girls will come next year.

Sunday was the Statewide Go-to-Church Sunday and the Grand Bethel Soups Cook-Off. Unfortunately, Maddy couldn't assist in the service, but Elecia, Genesis, Mandy, and I all helped to complete the service. The Chaplain was hilarious with his sermon on "God created us man and woman." The cross was beautiful, though it was very small. Mandy signed, which added to the affect. The girls and I then assisted in the Wheelchair Ministry, which is the part of Go-to-Church Sunday that I know the girls look forward to most. I didn't get lost, so I was happy. Then everyone made their way downstairs to the Grand Bethel Soups Cook-Off. Genesis won first place, and Dave Peter won second. Now Dave is showing off that at the Bethel meetings. Oh well! At least this time, we've convinced him to make his soup for us, so we're getting something out of it! I even got to eat a soup this year since I don't actually like chili or vegetable soup, and I definitely ate ice cream. I also ended up with lots of candy. I don't know who sent out the memo that everyone should sell candy bars, but it seemed to me like everyone was selling them.

Well, Monday I had a meeting, and I now have three Halloween parties to attend. If there are many more, then I'm going to have to repeat costumes. I hope everyone is planning on attending some of the events this month, particularly Coronation Ball, which is one of my favorite events of the year. I will be sure to see you around!!!

Grand Bethel Getaway

Grand Bethel Getaway was this weekend, and I must say that I am still exhausted. I had a great time with the girls down at the Demolay Chateau in Bloomington. There was a ton of great food, and I have to admit that I am going to try to replicate that omelet in a bag recipe soon. We played a ton of games, including dodgeball. I liked the dodgeball a lot, and I kept trying to get Raquel and Jasmine out. We also tried to learn a certain dance. It was kind of hard, but I think we have it down now. Now, just hope that I don't forget it before I have a chance to show off my new moves at Coronation Ball. We played a ton of Christmas games, which Tara always won. I think I need to consult my teachers about my ridiculous lack of time to watch television since I had no idea what anyone was talking about. Overall, it was a great time, and I really enjoyed it. Next year, I will definitely be going back if it's possible!

Official Visits of Bethels #107 and #38 and Bethels #86 and #99 and Hike Tea Silent Auction

Well, it was a very busy weekend for Indiana Job's Daughters! Sorry it's taken me longer than usual to write, but I attended my own Bethel meeting yesterday and have been trying to juggle everything.

First I went to the Official Visit of Bethels #107 and #38. I loved the theme of "Are you smarter than a Job's Daughter?" It was hilarious. The programs were really cute too, and now, I can say I've fulfilled my dream of becoming Homecoming Queen. Most importantly though, I was fortunate enough to witness the Majority Ceremony. Congratulations to Felicity and Jean. I have known both of them for a very long time. In fact, Jean helped during my initiation. The girls did a beautiful job, in spite of Anita's cell phone ringing in the middle of the ceremony. Another great part of the morning was the presentation of the HIKE flag from Hubert Haynes, Past Associate Supreme Guardian, to Anita and Lynn for the Grand Guardian Council. Girls, Indiana is the jurisdiction ranked third in receiving the awards, and so we need to continue to raise as much money as possible. Make sacrifices, girls, like the pie in the face that I took!!! In the reception, they had cute little sack lunches made up, and "Are you smarter than a Job's Daughter?" really began. Anita and Elecia went head to head, with Elecia winning. Then I volunteered my Associate Bethel Guardian, Dave Peter, to be a contestant. Dave beat the Associate Bethel Guardian from Bethel #107. He showed us his certificate at the meeting last night. He is very proud.

Next, I went to Bethel #86, West Newton for their Official Visit with Bethel #99. I had a lot of fun, sitting in the back with Genesis as Guide and Marshal. Unfortunately, they didn't initiate as they had planned to, but they did a beautiful tribute to the Bethel Flag. They are supposed to intiate on October 5th, and they need lots of help so check out the Bulletins page for more information on that. I had a good time there, and my favorite part of the meeting was when all of the adults looked completely stumped when Alicia said "Jolly Rancher." It's a part of their tradition. They pick some random word before the meeting, and Alicia says it during a part of the meeting when the girls aren't expecting it. The girls are supposed to shout it out. It keeps the girls listening and paying attention during the meeting. I thought it was an interesting idea.

Sunday, Anita and I traveled to Fort Wayne for the Hike Tea Silent Auction. The little baskets the girls had made were so cute, especially this little Frankenstein one! I had a great time just talking with the girls and other friends from around the state. I won a door prize, which was cool. It was great to see everyone, especially a prospective member for a Bethel up there, as well as a girl that had been newly initiated.

Overall, I had a great weekend. I hope everyone is planning on going to the Coronation Ball on October 23rd! It'll be groovy with the 60's theme. I hope some of you are planning to go out for the Coronation Queen and Junior Coronation Queen. After all, Genesis and I are going to need some practice crowning!!!

Job-A-Rama and Masonic Home Day

Well, it's been a very busy weekend for Indiana Job's Daughters and for me as well. I don't know about everyone else, but I know I am still pretty tired.

For those of you who weren't there, Job-A-Rama was a blast. I had a great time having a casual weekend to enjoy with all of my Indiana girls as well as the Supreme Team. I arrived early on Friday to help my Bethel Guardian in the kitchen. Don't worry, anyone! I don't think I actually even touched the food. I was given stickers as part of the Grand Bethel Scavenger Hunt, and I took my hayride. I was reunited with my friend Courtney Painter, the Supreme Bethel Honored Queen, who is from Delaware and whom I was fortunate enough to room with. That night was the latest this weekend for me as some of the Grand Bethel girls and I discussed some of the proposed Ritual revisions. Please Daughters and Adults, I know I can speak on behalf of the Supreme Bethel Honored Queen when I say to please comment on these revisions. This is our organization, and we must take an active part in it if we want it to prosper and grow. The Ritual is one of the cornerstones of our Order, and our voices should be heard.

Saturday was spent doing arts and crafts, the apple pitch, volleyball, and a lawn game. Those journals were really cute. I need to decorate mine, since I didn't get the chance to because Courtney and I ran the apple pitch. I wonder how many states are going to throw stress-ball apples at the Supreme Guardian, Associate Supreme Guardian, and their Supreme Officers. I doubt many others. Well, I've always known that we were unique. Then it came time for the Ugly Bug Ball. I liked my bug the best! We showed Maddy! We honored Vicki Loughmiller, our Supreme Fourth Messenger, and our Supreme Bethel Officers and Representatives. Bethel #107 won the contest, and Bethel #24 won Miss Congeniality. Finally, it was my favorite part of Job-A-Rama, the skits. The Misses and I did a skit about corn and meeting the Supreme Bethel Honored Queen, but mostly about corn. I loved all of the creative skits that all of the Bethels presented. I was so proud that the Supreme Visitors got to see the girls' creativity shine through. I didn't anticipate anyone crying when my Bethel performed "God Bless America" on the ninth anniversary of September 11. I was so happy that everyone had the opportunity to express themselves until it came time for the HIKE pie. It was no surprise when I was the one who was loved enough to receive the pie in the face, but I wasn't alone. I think a little bit of everyone got some of that pie. I can't wait to see the pictures from that. I ate some s'mores, and I went to get some sleep so that I could lead the church service the next morning and last through Masonic Home Day.

Finally it was time for the farewell and the church service. It wasn't much of a farewell since almost everyone had left or was going to Masonic Home Day, but we said farewell to our Supreme Guardian and managed to snap a few photos before Masonic Home Day.

Masonic Home Day was a whirlwind for me. I gave blood for the first time for Elecia's philanthropic project. I'm proud of myself because I didn't pass out. It did make me really tired though on top of the exhaustion from Job-A-Rama. We formed the cross, and Genesis, Mandy, Maddy, and I raced out to get changed for the parade. We made it, but just barely in time. Everything went well, but because of all of my exhaustion, I left just after the parade. I even slept on the way home.

Well, I hope everyone's recovering from this big weekend. Next thing on the calendar is the Official Visits on September 25, so I hope I will see everyone there. I hope everyone had a great time this weekend, and though I would love to keep blogging, I have a meeting I have to get to tonight so this is farewell for now.

Official Visits of Bethels 5 and 2 and Bethels 121 and 110

Well, I had the pleasure of being home this weekend, a pleasure I have not had in a while.

First of all, I would like to welcome two new members to our Order, and more specifically to my Bethel. I was so happy to welcome Steffani and Mikayla to our organization yesterday. I was even more excited than usual to initiate since my Bethel has not initiated since my term as Honored Queen from December 2008 to June 2009. I was happy to meet some of Clinton's members for the first time. It's always nice to see new faces in our organization, though not always nice to have to learn their names, but that's just because I'm awful with names.

Second of all, I just have to say that I am so proud of my Bethel. We have been doing practice initiation a lot this term to prepare for initiating these new members, and that is the best we have done initiation yet. I only hope that we get to use it again for more new candidates. I would also like to thank those that came and helped us initiate those new members. I truly appreciate it, and I know that I can speak on behalf of my Bethel when I say that they truly appreciate all of your help too. Thanks to everyone that attended!

Best of all though, I got homemade ice cream afterwards. Oh my goodness, it was so good!!! I put chocolate syrup and cookie crumbles on mine, but sadly, I couldn't even finish my sundae because all of the Italian food for the main course was so tasty too.

From there, I went to Bethel #121, Knightsville for the Official Visit of Bethels 121 and 110. I was so happy to see Jamie since I have not seen her in forever!!! I did well on my part for the Obligation Ceremony that I learned in five minutes, which made me extremely proud of myself, and even better was getting to hear Anita dedicate her granddaughter, Hailey, and hear her get so sentimental when she talked about some of her Grand Officers. The sidelines were pretty full at both Bethels, and I was so happy to be able to be a part of both ceremonies.

Well, the next big event on the agenda is Job-A-Rama, and I am so excited that we will be able to welcome the Supreme Team. I hope everyone has been working on their skits so we can really impress them and show them how truly unique the Indiana Daughters are. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT HEARD ME ANNOUNCE IT AT THE OFFICIAL VISITS, SKITS ARE TO BE NO LONGER THAN FIVE (5) MINUTES LONG!!! I can't wait to see you all there. Then we'll be rushing to Masonic Home Day for another great day full of fun and friendship.

Official Visits of Bethels 115 and 25 and Bethels 8 and 27

Yesterday was an awesome day. It was the way we should kick off all Official Visits. We had a lot of people on the sidelines. It was great to see all of the visiting Job's Daughters, the Past Honored Queens, the Worshipful Masters, the Grand Family, the Past Grands, Grand Bethel Officers, and most of the Misses at both of the Official Visits.

Bethels 8 and 27 did the Majority Ceremony for four of their members. There were a lot of tears in the room and from the girls as they tried to recite their parts. It was a very sentimental ceremony, and it was absolutely apparent how much the girls receiving their Majority Degree meant to their Bethel. The ceremony was impressive, and I know it meant a lot to the girls and will be something they remember and cherish for years to come. Elecia tried to say that Genesis, Maddy, and I were the only ones to come up with the title for her award based on Ritual work. For the record, she gave us three options, and we all thought that the "You're totally legit" award best fit Elecia. The Librarians' Reports were so cute, especially Bethel 8 with their song from the DoodleBops called "Let's Get on the Bus." It was a great way to start off the morning, and I was glad that I had gotten up at 3:00 in the morning to attend. My favorite part though, of course, was the food, which was excellent and gave me enough energy that I could keep going for the rest of the day.

From Fort Wayne, I went to the Official Visit of Bethels 115 and 25. It was a great time, and the Obligation Ceremony was not only lovely, but it also reminded me that today marks five years of membership for me in Job's Daughters. It was obviously pretty special to me, and I think it meant just as much to everyone else who shared in the Ceremony as it did to me. It was another great day and I felt at home since I was in my other Associate Grand Guardian's Bethel. I had a great time, and the theme of Back to School was very appropriate as I went back to school last Tuesday. I had a great time and was happy to see the sidelines so full.

Next up is my own Official Visit, so I'm looking forward to staying a bit closer to home this time. I hope we have as great a turnout as these two Bethels did this weekend.

Supreme Session and Region 5 Get-Together

Well, everyone, I think I need to make the first of many apologies that I will probably make in this blog throughout the year. I am very sorry about not keeping current at Supreme Session, but it seemed very difficult to get to a computer with so much going on there. As for blogging when I came home, I don't actually have a computer with Internet access at my house so I sincerely apologize. I will take this opportunity now to catch up.

So I believe I left off with Monday at Supreme Session.

Tuesday was a long day, but one I had been anticipating ever since I was crowned Miss Indiana Job's Daughter on June 5th. It was time for the Miss International Job's Daughter test. I had some other obligations to attend to first though. I, along with the rest of the Indiana Messenger Team, went into judging at 8:40 am. Despite all of our practice, we knew we hadn't placed, though it had went well. After robe judging, Maddy and I went back to my room for some review for the test before I had my individual ritual. I didn't realize I had to do Stations and Duties so I didn't place in my individual either. I went back to my room again and continued studying and preparing myself for the test. I met up with the other Miss International Job's Daughter pageant contestants, and after some absolutely hilarious "nervous" pictures, we went into the test. I left the room confident and proceeded to the mixer for the contestants. We had a lot of fun, and it was great to meet and swap all of the other girls from the other jurisdictions. We all parted to our separate directions to get ready for Formal Opening. I loved the arrangements and reserved seating Elaine had made for the Daughters present. I don't think I have ever been able to actually see the Opening. It was with great pleasure that I was lucky enough to receive Mandy's scholarship on her behalf. I know that money was well-deserved and will be put to good use.

Wednesday was filled with even more events for the Miss International Job's Daughter pageant, but amid the interviews, the recitation, and robe judging, I still managed to enjoy myself. Job's Daughters Congress was fun and full of discussion. I was incredibly excited that they thought to share the results of the survey online. I was thrilled to discover that 13% of our membership took the survey. I attended the All Job's Daughters Luncheon, and I was excited to hear that Mahaley had received third place in Fourth Messenger.

Thursday started off with the Supreme Bethel meeting. I was convinced at Supreme Session to put my name in for Supreme Bethel line. It would be just my luck that I was selected as Supreme Bethel Junior Princess for the year. I think Anita was more thrilled than I was. I was really happy that this year I actually knew the girl who was drawn for Supreme Bethel Honored Queen. She is a really awesome girl who is, or perhaps was is more appropriate, the Miss Job's Daughter from Delaware. Then I moved quickly to the Pageant luncheon where we had a great time talking with some of the judges about their lives, hobbies, and experiences as Miss International Job's Daughter. From there, we went to the Pageant rehearsal. We had a great time playing a lot of different games as we waited for our individual time to rehearse walking through the area. Then I went back to my room, where Becca along with Maddy, who she claimed was her assistant, was waiting to get her hands on my hair. She did an awesome job with my hair and make-up. Then I got into my dress, and my nerves began to set in. Lots of hugs and support from my Indiana gang and one special hug from Miss Brittney, I waited for my turn to enter the room, introduce myself, and answer the question. I wasn't fortunate enough to become a semi-finalist, but I watched with great joy as Aline, the contestant from Brazil, was crowned Miss International Job's Daughter. She is a wonderful girl, and I wish her all the best in her travels, but I must say that I am happy that I get to remain home with all of my girls, who are the most awesome anyway!!! I can say that I was truly honored to represent our jurisdiction and to compete alongside so many of the most poised and graceful girls I have ever met. Then we left for the Indiana get-together, where I had a great time, got lots of hugs and presents, and got to relax for the first time since I had arrived at Supreme.

Friday, I got up early to attend the Supreme Bethel Installation practice. I left in a hurry to go horseback riding in the Garden of the Gods. My horse's name was Speck. She was sort of ornery, but I think that was because my mom's horse wanted to be really close. The scenery was gorgeous even though I was so far in the back, I really didn't get to hear anything about the rock formations. I got to hang out for a little while, then got ready for Supreme Bethel Installation. It was fun, and it was great to see someone installed as Supreme Bethel Honored Queen that I consider a friend. I figured it out though. I now have five tiaras, two crowns, and three capes for this year, plus five sashes. I think maybe my collection is getting a little excessive.

Saturday was a day of relaxation and packing. I relaxed in the lobby with Genesis, Mahaley, and Elecia, then went to get dressed for Supreme Guardian Council Installation. Vicki was installed as Supreme Fourth Messenger with Genesis as her escort. I enjoyed it, and Indiana should be honored to have Vicki representing us as a Supreme officer.

It was a late night and an early morning Sunday as Mom and I traveled home. Things didn't go so smoothly in Dallas, but we managed to avoid the baggage fare by sending our stuff home with Vicki and Lynn. I left for home from Indianapolis exhausted but happy to be home in Indiana.

Monday, I had a meeting with practice initiation. I was still tired, but I was happy to be at home in my Bethel in Terre Haute for the first time in what seemed like ages. I have to tell you that it is really true that there is no place like home.

Yesterday, I attended the Region 5 Get-together, which was a car wash for HIKE. I got a sunburn, but it was worth it to earn money for HIKE and to enjoy a day with some of my girls. Jasmine has shown her dedication to HIKE. She again received the $1,000 HIKE award this year at Supreme, and I am truly proud of all of her efforts as a member of my Bethel and a girl I was lucky to crown Honored Queen.

So I think that catches things up. Again, I apologize for my lateness posting, but I hope that this extremely long entry makes up for it. I hope we have a chance to show the Supreme Team what Indiana Job's Daughters is all about, and now that the Miss International Job's Daughter pageant and Supreme Session is over, it is time for school to begin again. I hope all of our Daughters are looking forward to going back to school, but for those of you who aren't, I hope you are looking forward to the start of Official Visits and other state events as much as I am. I hope to see all of you very soon!

White Water Rafting and Performing Arts Review

Well, today Supreme Session really got underway. I went wite water rafting in the Arkansas River along with the rest of the Indiana bunch. It was so much fun in spite of the freezing water. Lindsey and I were ready and raring to go for more. Next time, I think we're going to try to go for higher class waters. Mahaley took a little swim. Don't worry though. She did it on purpose!

While I was white water rafting, Genesis, our Junior Miss Indiana Job's Daughter, was competing in the performing arts competition. She did two dances, a speech, and signing. I didn't get to see her perform, but her speech must have been pretty good because she placed third in speech and theater.

We've had another great day here, making new friends. I'm entirely shocked. I actually remember some of the other Misses names and jurisdictions as we pass one another and exchange greetings in the hallways. I'm excited that we're getting to know one another now.

Tomorrow, I have Supreme Messenger Team, Individual Ritual Contest, and the Miss International written test and mixer. It should be a very long day, but I'm pretty sure I will survive. You might check my blog tomorrow afternoon though to make sure.

Worship Service at the Air Force Academy

Well, it's been another good day here at Supreme Session. Today, we went to the worship service at the Air Force Academy. I can't believe it, but on the base, there is actually a chapel that is so beautiful that it compares to the beauty of the skyline I woke up to this morning. I can't even begin to describe to you the beauty of the landscape here. The mountains are just gorgeous.

I'm getting ready to go swimming with Mahaley, Becca, and Lindsey. It should make for a good time. I'm really looking forward to two things this week: going white water rafting tomorrow and meeting all the Miss contestants on Tuesday. I've already run into the current Miss International Job's Daughter, Miss Queensland Job's Daughter, and Miss Kentucky Job's Daughter.

Things are getting underway for Supreme Session this year. I've run into a few Daughters. I can't wait to meet some more Daughters. Keep reading this week for more news from my adventures here at Supreme Session 2010.

I'm here!!!

Well, I made it. I'm here in Colorado Springs in one piece and with all my luggage so I would say that my first day at Supreme Session was a success.

The day started pretty early for me. I got up and checked for the millionth time that I had everything packed that I needed to take. Then my mom and I started for the Indianapolis airport. She got stopped by the scanner, but I made it through without suspicion. We had a layover in Dallas. I had heard awful things about that airport, but everything went smoothly, thank God. When we arrived in Colorado Springs, we were met by Elecia. We got the luggage, and we headed for the hotel.

It's been almost ten hours since I arrived at the Indianapolis airport, so it's been a pretty long day for me. I met up with Tiffany and Mahaley, so it's great that I actually know someone here. There's not much to tell yet since I just got here, but I'll try to blog more in the next few days as Supreme Session 2010 gets underway. Keep checking back for more news about Supreme Session!

Worthy Grand Patron's Reception and Demolay Conclave

Yesterday was another long day with Anita and I traveling to the Worthy Grand Patron's Reception in Princeton, Indiana then making our way to Conclave for the Installation and Dance!

We couldn't stay as long as we wanted to for Bill Shoulders, the Worthy Grand Patron's reception, but we did get a few pictures with Bill and his wife. I got to see the Grand Worthy Advisor, Breonna, and Elizabeth, the Grand Charity this year. We had some Chex Mix and tried to wait it out so we could see the addendum to the "Wizard of Oes" skit from last weekend. Unfortunately, we had to cut out before the program started so we could get to Greencastle for the Demolay Installation.

The Demolay Installation was very short to my surprise. Their ceremony doesn't take long at all, which I was thankful for. SarahBeth gave her final remarks as the State Sweetheart then handed the reins and the really awesome crown down to Sam from Bethel #54, who is this year's State Sweetheart. I know she already has a lot of plans in the works and will do a great job, so congratulations to Sam, and I look forward to working with you and comparing crown height this year! James went in as State Master Councilor. I know he was really excited, and all of the Jobie girls I was sitting with were really excited for him. He and I are going to be good friends, now that he finally remembers my name. It's going to be a super year with the theme being super heroes this year for the Demolay. The capes he and Sam got from Maddy were hilarious, but I still prefer mine!

A quick Messenger Team practice and I was off to the dance! It was really fun dancing with all of the girls, and yes, even some of the boys no matter how awkward some of them were. We did the classics, though I must admit that I wish we had done the Cha Cha Slide. It was a really great time, especially considering it was my first Conclave dance! It's definitely something I'm going to try to go back to! I hope everyone that went had a great time!

Well, this week is pretty much an easy one. I only have a meeting for my home Bethel tomorrow. Then I'm off to Colorado Springs for Supreme Session, where I will represent our jurisdiction in the Miss International Pageant. I'll do my best to represent all of you and our simply awesome jurisdiction! Wish me luck, and remember to keep checking back for more posts on my travels!

Demolay Conclave

Last night, I went to Demolay Conclave along with Anita, Lynn, Elecia, Becca, and Kathy. We saw the Ceremony of Lights, and when it came time for introductions and remarks, I gave remarks again on behalf of Indiana Job's Daughters. It went well, and after all the remarks and introductions were finally over, they began the Demolay Olympics, called the Demo-lympics, to fit with their Conclave theme of "Ancient Greece". The games began with a game called "Hanky Panky" as a reminder the Greeks aptitude for plumbing and waterworks. Each chapter was given the name of a Greek city-state. Boys from each chapter competed by using only one hand to pull all of the tissues one at a time from a new Kleenex box. It was hilarious, and the boys started throwing armfuls of tissues at one another. The prizes were probably more funny though since the first three boys to pull out all of the tissues from their boxes received gold, silver, and bronze plungers. Afterwards, we had cookies and punch, and I talked a lot with Sam, their next State Sweetheart, and Jamie, who is a Hendricks County Chapter Princess, both of whom are Jobies! Overall, I had a great time, and I look forward to the dance tomorrow night where I hear all the fun really happens.

Tonight though, I am off to Baskin Robbins for an ice cream party my Bethel is having tonight. Yummy!

Knightsville and Fishers Initiation

I have just been all over the place this week: Daleville on Monday, Knightsville on Tuesday, Fishers yesterday, and tonight I am going to Demolay Conclave in Greencastle.

Knightsville was fun! Amanda presided very well, and the meeting was so short. Jasmine and I pro-temmed in the West, with me as Guide and her as Marshal. She became a member there that night. I know that made her very happy, and since she's already a member at Bethel #2, Terre Haute, it made me very happy that we didn't have to do the whole Ceremony of Initiation. We just escorted her up to the East and sang the Welcome song! It's definitely the shortest Initiation I've ever been to.

Fishers was also really fun, and I was happy to sit in and pro-tem as Jr. Princess. We wore the old crowns, which was interesting since I've only ever worn them once. Their Sr. Princess commented that they were really heavy. I laughed and told her that she should try on the Miss Indiana Job's Daughter crown because it weighs like four times as much! I was happy to help initiate Kirsten and welcome into what I think is the best organization in the entire universe! Lindsey and Becca sat in the West and helped as Guide and Marshal! The Librarian's report was funny-kind of! Each Daughter was asked to tell an old joke. Most of them didn't have any. I blame Elecia. If she had been there with Laffy Taffy, we all would have had one. I'll tell you mine though. Why did the clown cross the road? To get to the shoe carnival. I know it's cheesy. Oh well! For refreshments we had some awesome pizza rolls and cookie cake and actual cake to celebrate Stephanie's birthday!

Tonight I'm off to Conclave, but I know that Bethel #22, Bloomington, is initiating. Good luck to them, and keep up the great work, Indiana, so we can reach our goal of 100 new members this year! Daleville Initiation

Last night was another great night, one of many to come this week. I had a great time helping Daleville initiate Mandy and Jessica, along with some girls from Muncie and Becca. I pro-temmed Chaplain and Fourth Messenger. The refreshments were awesome with ice cream cake for someone's birthday, hot dogs, and chips. It was great to see almost a full corps of officers on the floor. There should be some more fun to report on after I attend Bethel 121, Knightsville's meeting tonight!

Worthy Grand Matron's Reception

Yesterday was a very long day with a four hour car ride one way to Goshen, Indiana for the Worthy Grand Matron's Reception. It was fun though because Anita and I met Elecia and Lynn after about an hour and a half. Before we met them, I was looking over the proposed amendments to the Supreme Guardian Council's Constitution and Bylaws. There are some really interesting ones this year, and some of them relate to the survey on the Supreme webpage that Anita mentioned at the Schools of Instruction. Remember girls, you have until July 31, to be included in this survey, the results of which will be reported at one of the business meetings at Supreme. You can find both the survey and the proposed amendments on the Supreme webpage.

When we arrived, we got pictures with the Worthy Grand Matron. Elecia put my crown on for the first time. We promised we'd learn how to do it together this year. We had some fruit and cheese at the social hour, then proceeded to the main event. Kathy and her husband had this cute Wizard of Oz skit since that's her theme for the year, only she changed it to the Wizard of OES (pronounced like in Spaghetti O's). She was dressed as Dorothy and her husband as Toto while the Worthy Grand Matrons and Worthy Grand Patrons of the Grand families she's served in were dressed as other Wizard of Oz characters. After the skit, all the Past Grand Matrons and Patrons involved as well as Kathy and her husband exited. They entered a few minutes later from the back, but this time Kathy was dressed as Glenda the Good Witch and her husband as Dorothy. It's probably one of the most hilarious things I have ever seen. The music was awesome with a Past Grand Organist playing and several soloists singing songs. Then we loaded up to go back home, a total trip of about 450 miles both ways for me.

I know we have a few initiations going on this week, some of which I'm trying to go to. I hope that all goes well for the new members and for the Bethels initiating them. Good luck this week, and I hope to see all of you at the Conclave dance this weekend!

4-H Parade!!!

We had a great turnout from my Bethel. There were lots of girls, who weren't exactly raring to go since it was so hot and humid. When they were complaining about having to walk while the girls who were riding as Honored Queen and Senior Princess and I rode on the golf cart, we were telling them we'd rather walk than wear the capes. I thought I was suffocating in mine, but I think the Honored Queen had it worse than I did. That's okay though. Since we have no air-conditioning at my Bethel, we're conditioned to it.

The golf cart was interesting. It's the first time we've ever used one of those in a parade. It was sort of fun though, but with Peggy in the driver's seat, we were going up and down hills to pass people to get in line for the parade. I never know quite what to expect when Peggy's driving. We had to ward off some of the members of the 4-H Rabbit Club who were trying to soak their competition with water guns. We met a Past Honored Queen from our Bethel, and despite sweating half to death thanks to the heat, we waved and smiled like princesses, and finished the parade just before it began to thunder.

A Pretty Quiet Week

Well, this week is going to be pretty quiet in comparison to last week. Thank heavens since my mom and I curbed our front passenger side tire. Nobody's hurt...our car just isn't moving anywhere anytime soon.

Tonight, I have a meeting at my home Bethel. Then Thursday, we're going to be in the 4-H parade. I heard it's supposed to rain, so we'll see how that turns out. If it doesn't rain, it's going to be really hot in my cape and a formal with all the heat and humidity we've been experiencing lately. Saturday, Anita and I are going to Goshen for the Worthy Grand Matron's reception. That's going to be a long car ride. Oh well, I'll bring my bus and sleep!!! They make such great pillows.

My First Two Weeks as MIJD!!!!!

Well, it's been a very busy couple of weeks. Well, really it's been a very busy month since I won Pageant. It's quite the whirlwind between all the traveling and the studying for the Miss International Job's Daughter Pageant!

We're off to a running start this year! I've already been to several Bethels attending Schools of Instruction in Plainfield, Knightsville, Greenfield, Fort Wayne, Jeffersonville, and Valparaiso. Then there was the All Day School of Instruction. The morning session was interesting. I'm wondering what new category Jamie Hadley has cooked up for the old Story of Job competitors. I'm out for Lynn though. He is so getting pied in the face at Job-A-Rama!!! The meal was great, but I have to tell you that I don't think I have ever seen that many cookies in my life!!! I had a great time playing Candy Land! I'd never played before! I think it was more difficult for me to try to learn the names of all of the girls than it was for me to answer Elecia's trivia questions. I'm getting there though...maybe by the end of the year I'll have everyone's name memorized. No promises!

I've also given my first remarks on behalf of Indiana Job's Daughters on Thursday at Rainbow Grand Assembly. I appointed a Crown Committee while we were there too! I finally figured out how to put one of the Job's Daughter crowns on my head without help, and then I get a new one. I think maybe that's the last test at Pageant-getting the crown on! The drive home was really tiring though. We were so tired from the night before at Valparaiso that we could barely keep our eyes open!

Then on Friday, Anita and I went to Bill Profitt's viewing. My heart goes out to Linda and her family. Please remember to keep them in your prayers. After stopping to eat, we went to Tiffany and George Ingles' Installation as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron of Brownsburg Chapter of Eastern Star. Karen acted as the Installing Officer and Bethel 107 did the Bible Ceremony, which made the ceremony even more special. Congratulations to Tiffany and George, and thanks to the members of our Job's Daughters family who came to support them. We were quite a presence on the sidelines.

It's been great to see everyone over the last few weeks, and I look forward to seeing more of all of you throughout my travels this year. Keep up the great work, Indiana!
